Areas of Expertise
Child language, Bi/Multilingual language development and assessment
Profile
My research is deeply informed by my clinical background as a bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist within the public school system. These experiences shaped my focus on bilingual language development and the critical need for culturally responsive assessment practices that accurately reflect a child’s bicultural and bilingual abilities.
By applying a sociocultural lens to explore the intersection of language and culture, I aim to transform how we support culturally and linguistically diverse children with developmental language delays and their families.
Teaching Philosophy
I view my classroom, whether physical or online, as a space where students are not passive recipients of information, but active participants in the learning process. My approach to teaching is to develop students into critical thinkers by providing a strong theoretical foundation and highlighting the implications of theory in clinical practice.
I draw on students’ Funds of Knowledge to enrich classroom activities, seeing my role as an instructor who guides and supports exploration, inquiry, and the collaborative construction of knowledge.
